GEOGRAPHY

Ethiopian is an East African country considered to be the cradle of human race. Lucy Dinqinesh, meaning “You Are Beautiful” or "You Are Wonderful" is  the oldest couplet human skeleton founded by anthropologists in Ethiopia. The ancient name of Ethiopia was Abyssinia from where the word "Habesha" comes and this means mixed race. Ethiopia is oldest African country which has 3000 years history of kingdom. Currently, Ethiopian  is Africa's second-most populous nation.

Ethiopia is a country where one of the four Biblical Rivers known as Ghion /Nile originates. The Nile crosses Sudan and Egypt.

CIVILIZATION

Ethiopia is one of the oldest continuous civilizations in the world. Ethiopia was also rich to the extent that coins were minted of gold. The obelisk of Axum, hewed from a single rock, can one indication of the country's civilization. The Obelisk Axum is 24 meters high and 1700 years old. It eights 500 tons.

Historical evidence indicate that the history of coffee began on the plateaus of central Ethiopia in particular Keffa, the birthplace of coffee. The name coffee was derived from Kaffa,  an Ethiopian region know by coffee plantation.

CULTURE

Ethiopia is a country which has its own endemic culture, and its people are know for their hospitality.

Ethiopia is unique in Africa for having its own endogenous language, alphabet, numerical system, calendar, and its own classical music. St. Yared, the 5th century Ethiopian Hymnologist, is credited as founder of Ethiopian classical music.

RELIGION

·         Ethiopia received Judaism one thousand yours before Christianity.

  • Moses the prophet married an Ethiopian woman.

  • When Israel was destroyed by Assyrians, a number of them from four of the ten tribes escaped into Ethiopia.

  • The non-Jewish Queen of Ethiopia (the Queen of Sheba) traveled to meet with Solomon. She was converted to Judaism and had a son with Solomon. Her son Menilik went back to visit King Solomon and brought the Ark of the Covenant, the Old Testament scriptures and other sacred relics with him. Ethiopia the only country which possesses the full version of the Old Testament book call the book of Enoch which as about 108 chapters.

  • Later on (and into the Greek period) there were Israeli garrisons in various positions between Ethiopia and Israel. The country is lucky for having the Ark of the Covenant which remains as one of Biblical mysteries in word history.

As Ethiopians had been worshiping the One True God, the God Abraham for centuries, they received Christianity in 34 AD before most countries of the world. This makes the country the treasurer of the Biblical mysteries.

POLITICS

There was always European attack against Ethiopia. Emperor Tewodros who united Ethiopia fought against British invaders in 1868 and sacrificed himself by his own hands when he knew that his army was defeated at the battle "Mekdela."

Ethiopians are distinguished as heroic people. Ethiopia remains as the only African country that was not colonized by any foreign power. Italy invaded Ethiopia in 1935 to revenge her defeat at the battle of Adwa (1896) where Italy lost about 8000 soldiers, military officers and generals. The Italians also paid 10 million lire to ransom thousands of soldiers including one general captured by Ethiopians at this battle. As a result, thousands Italians demonstrated  against Prime Minister Crispi at Rome and forced him to resign.

As in the case of other countries, Ethiopia has some endemic animals that are not found outside the country.
